DIY Coffee Scrub: Perfect for V-day Gifting

Posted on February 12, 2014 by Alyssa Cassidy

While perusing Pinterest and checking out some new recipes, I came across a natural, homemade body scrub, made with 4 ingredients I have currently hanging out in my pantry.

I’m having lunch with a friend tomorrow and was planning on grabbing her a V-day card but once I saw this I decided to opt to give her this instead — much more meaningful (she loves coffee and who can resist a homemade gift?!)
I’ll walk you through making of this, but you can find the original (and gorgeous) photos on Free People’s blog.

The 4 ingredients they chose to use are all awesome for a scrub due to their individual benefits, including:

  1. Coffee: antioxidants, pulls out extra moisture and in the scrub, these grounds act as an exfoliant.
  2. Coconut Oil: moisturizing, and full of vitamins and minerals.
  3. Cinnamon: helps rid bacteria.
  4. Coconut palm sugar: more exfoliant. (you can sub cane sugar if you don’t have this on hand)
First I took my ingredients of 1/2 cup coffee grounds, 1/2 cup coconut palm sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 cup coconut oil (softened but not warm! ) and measured them out in separate containers.

Next I threw them all in a large bowl and began mixing with a fork. This took a few minutes to really work all of the ingredients into the coconut oil. Towards the end, I started mixing with my hands before filling my containers.

The mix, almost ready to package.

Ready to go!

I tested a little of the extra on my hands and I must say, once I rinsed my skin was super soft. This will be especially nice after the harsh winter most of you are getting that is no doubt drying your skin. I’ll have to repost this right before summer so whoever missed it can take advantage of the exfoliating properties and rid themselves of dry winter skin.

They have quite a few all natural, DIY, beauty/skin recipes on their blog which I can’t wait to try more of- a coconut milk shampoo in particular (will report how that goes!) I love that many of the foods and oils we use in paleo/primal cooking have so many nourishing properties that they are used for a ton of other things besides our food.

Enjoy and please share any more fun DIY projects you know of like this- I’m a sucker for homemade gifts!
