"OMG I just tried those new Coffee Blocks in the middle of the ocean on a Dreamliner on the way to China after fasting for 16 hours and OMG I think I'm going to blow a brain gasket and OMG when can I buy a case of these because it is totally delicious and makes my brain all happy and holy crap I just realized that this crazy stream of consciousness would be a great product intro blurb." - actual email sent just after the first Better Butter Coffee experience.
Coffee is practically a modern staple of our lives like t-shirts, air-conditioning, and the internet itself. Most of us love it, consume it, and make light of our "addiction" to it. It's true that there are benefits to coffee, from simple alertness to a bevy of antioxidants in each cup. But there's a way to make that cuppa joe—at least the first one of the morning—even better than you dreamed possible. Instead of having coffee with your breakfast, make coffee BE your breakfast. How? Bolster it with healthy fats that will digest easily and go right to your thinky brain.
Until now, adding coconut oil and butter to your coffee was a bit of a process, involving just the right temperature of liquid and furious mixing to make sure that everything didn't separate into a weird oily cup of grog. Here comes Coffee Blocks, making one of the best paleo-friendly products I've had the pleasure of consuming. This is basically a super-concentrated goo of instant coffee, grass-fed ghee, coconut oil, and egg yolk, all squished up in a tidy little packet not unlike those individual packs of nut butters we see at the grocery store.
How does it work? Brilliantly. My brain went onto high alert and smooth processing not long after drinking that complex rich cup. It's strong, potent, and deliciously rich. There's not even a hint of added sugar to get in the way of the flavors or mess with your blood sugar. The coconut oil blends with the butter which blends with the egg yolk to allow maximum absorption and stellar taste. And no, it is not the least bit weird.
Oh, wait, you meant, "how do I mix it?". Right, sorry. Start with a 16 oz mug so you have room to stir. Squeeze the packet in and add 8-12oz of hot but not too hot water. Stir briskly. Quaff.
Basically, it makes your brain a little buzzy and your stomach a little less growly in the morning. It pumps you full of healthy fats with all the valuable nutrients from egg yolks and ghee, and uses the quick-absorbing coconut oil to give you energy without any hint of a sugar crash come mid-morning. This is a way to start each and every morning if you'd like with something far better than the average portable breakfast.
Coconut oil has been used by many cultures worldwide for thousands of years, and is well known for its many amazing properties. Coconut is so nutritious, its list of benefits reads like a patent medicine bottle. Many people eat several tablespoons of coconut oil daily, for the incredible host of benefits it confers. It’s full of health-boosting lauric acid and medium-chain triglycerides.
Nutrition? Yep. Tonalin CLA: Short for Conjugated Linoleic Acid, this fatty acid packs a punch, crucial in maintaining a healthy metabolism and weight management. We are often asked “how do vegetarians get their Tonalin CLA if they don’t eat meat?” Ghee. That’s how.
1:1 Omega Fatty Acid Ratio: Because this is an animal source of fat, there is no Omega 6 present in this Ghee. This is huge in making it possible to consume significant amounts of the Ghee without all the health risks associated with other oils like Corn and Vegetable Oil.
With the exception of niacin and riboflavin, the yolk contains a higher proportion of the egg’s vitamins than the white, including vitamins B6 and B12, folic acid, pantothenic acid and thiamin. All of the egg’s vitamins A, D, E and K are in the yolk. Egg yolks are one of the few foods naturally containing vitamin D. The yolk also contains more calcium, copper, iron, manganese, phosphorus, selenium and zinc than the white.
A combination of amino acids, some of which are called essential because the human body needs them from the diet because it can’t synthesize them. Adequate dietary protein intake must include all the essential amino acids your body needs daily. The egg boasts them all: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine. These amino acids are present in a pattern that matches very closely the pattern the human body needs, so the egg is often the measuring stick by which other protein foods are measured. In addition to the nine essential amino acids, there are nine other amino acids in an egg.
It is really easy- Place a Coffee Block in a cup, add hot water (we prefer 4 oz room temp, 8 oz hot), mix until you get a nice head of foam. Boom!, Better Butter Coffee.

Don’t worry, you can still drink it. Next time try making it with slightly cooler water (4 oz room temp and 8 oz of hot water). Sometimes when the water is too hot the egg yolks clump together.
Short answer is no, but coffee blocks accomplishes many of the same health benefits. Bulletproof® Coffee is a trademark of Bulletproof® Executive, which we have no affiliation with. Further, the Bulletproof® Coffee recipe calls for MCT oil. We feel that there are more benefits of coconut oil than just the MCTs. It has antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties, it has the ability to raise HDL (good) cholesterol, and its shelf stable.
