Beef stick? Grass-fed? Make mine spicy! (That's what she said.) Now that the poetry part of this blurb is thankfully past, you can revel in the deliciousness of New Primal's grass-fed beef stick with potent hits of both jalapeno and chili powder to set your tongue to a tingly warmth. The New Primal, already experts at perfectly soft/chewy jerky, have branched out into sticks (or, as Anthony Bourdain calls them, "meat in tube form"). You are holding the result of that expertise: a portable rocket of 100% grass-fed beef enhanced by chili spice and stabilized by seasonings and a bit of love.
There is no higher art, to some folks, than meat in tube form. Whether that's a perfectly smoked summer sausage, or a link of Polish kielbasa, or this here spicy meat stick from The New Primal. All are based on the idea of putting seasoned meat into a tubular case for storage, curing, or cooking. It really is one of mankind's greatest food inventions, right up there with yogurt and kimchee.
But we're here to talk about 100% grass-fed sticks, especially when a bit of fiery heat is added to each and every bite. How the flavor is meaty without being too salty, not at all sweet despite the touch of honey in the ingredients list, and just the right amount of complexity from a whole litany of spices like ginger and pepper and onion. You'll enjoy these whether the last meaty product you've consumed was artisanal jerky from the guy on the side of the road or an actual gas station mass-market meat stick. No matter, these sticks are amazing.
Here's what I like about their formula - just take excellent quality grass-fed beef from only the best sources and add just a few flavor friends (a little garlic here, a little paprika there), then add a potent but not killer dose of jalapenos and chile powder, then let nature set the course for how the stick is going to taste. This recipe nudges up the flavor with a touch of honey and ginger, then tarts up things with apple cider vinegar. Everything is rounded out with a bit of salt. Done!
What does The New Primal have to say about their own beefy acquisition practices? They're happy and proud about where and how their meat is raised:
Our grass-fed beef comes solely from the vast, rolling hills of New Zealand. In nature, good things take time. Our cattle are humanely raised on family farm pastures, where they are free to mature naturally and feed on grass year round without ever being injected with growth hormones or antibiotics. Due to New Zealand’s neutral climate and year-round grass growth, there is never a need to supplement their food in the winter. We use only whole muscle cuts from the top-round of the animal. The use of GMOs in agriculture is illegal in New Zealand, so there is never a risk of GMO runoff contaminating the soil (as is the current challenge with the majority of US Raised Beef).
Every day, more and more people are submitting to the revitalizing benefits of natural grass-fed meat. Allowing nature to do its job is better for the animal, better for us, and better for the environment. Pasture Raised animals offer a nutritional authenticity to accommodate the modern conscientious kitchen.
Sometimes called nature's best-tasting multivitamin, beef is not only one of the most protein-rich foods you can eat, but it’s insanely nutritious in other ways. It’s extremely high in zinc, vitamin B12, selenium, iron, vitamin B6, phosphorus, niacin, potassium, and riboflavin. The New Primal's beef comes from cows that are pastured most of their lives, so it’s naturally lean. Grass-fed beef contains more heart-healthy omega-3 fats, more vitamins A and E, higher levels of antioxidants, and up to seven times the beta-carotene of grain-fed. Grass-fed beef also contains high amounts of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), thought by many to prevent cancer. It’s also kinder on cattle, and on the environment.
What makes this stick kind of awesome:
"Does the old adage, “you are what you eat” still ring true? I believe it does.
In 2009, I embarked on a journey to improve my health. Portable protein kept me on track. Disappointed in not being able to find anything that met my high standards for whole food, I started making jerky at home. Three years (and 6 dehydrators) later, I quit my day job and The New Primal was born.
We are a company built on honesty, transparency and integrity and hope to inspire everyone who encounters our brand to make better food choices. You are what you eat. Choose wisely.
