You know those little nut butter squeeze packs that seem to be everywhere in grocery stores? They're tasty and all, but they are "just" nut butters. How about a squeeze pack full of sweet, salty, coconutty CARAMEL? Oh yeah, you heard that correctly. Caramel. In a squeezy. Go ahead, knead that little packet. Show it some massaging love. Tear off the top and squooosh it into your hungry mouth. This is soft salted caramel love, made from real stuff, by real people from Austin. It's insanely good no matter what time of day you consume it, without any overwhelming sweetness or guilty tummy. Pro tip: knead the packet a whole bunch then stick it in the freezer to make an almost caramel candy for biting.
Salted caramel ANYTHING is still having a much-deserved heyday. Until recently, it was woe unto paleo-folks who wanted something a bit healthier than big piles of refined sugar cooked together with butter from who-knows-where. There, there, now: Lovebean is here for you. Open the jar and dip in a finger, or a spoon if you like to be formal about it, and lift it to tongue. That sweet coconut, the little hit of salt, that CARAMEL. Whoa. Lovebean took coconut manna and whipped it up good with coconut sugar and coconut milk – all organic – and sprinkled the lot with salt. You've got the trifecta of heathy fats, organic mojo, and sweet deliciousness. On a spoon or over fruit, this caramel is what will make you renounce those mass-produced sugary specimens for good.
Lovebean is in the business of pure and potent confections of the most healthy kind. Lovebean uses only 100% organic ingredients in their spreads and always sweeten it with delicious low-glycemic coconut nectar. Since their products are virgin coconut oil-based, not only are they a healthier option to your typical spreads and butters, but this allows the texture to vary from thick and creamy when cooler to completely liquid and perfect for dipping when warmer. The versatility is both addicting and ridculously convenient.
Incredible flavors can be coaxed out of only a few simple ingredients, and this caramel spread is living proof. It's possible to work magic when you use only the highest-quality ingredients. Here's what's going on inside:
Coconut has been used by many cultures worldwide for thousands of years, and is well known for its many amazing properties. Coconut is so nutritious, its list of benefits reads like a patent medicine bottle. It’s full of health-boosting lauric acid and medium-chain triglycerides, has antimicrobial and anti-viral qualities, and has been shown to help with weight loss, Alzheimer’s, cognitive function and athletic performance. It nourishes the thyroid, helps prevent candida overgrowth, boosts the metabolism, and makes skin and hair softer. Many people eat several tablespoons of coconut oil daily, for the incredible host of benefits it confers. Also, it’s one of the tastiest things a person could eat. (No offense, sea veggies.)
Coconut palm sugar is a low-glycemic sweetener that is rich in minerals and provides consistent energy via delayed glucose absorption and the nutritional boost of minerals. Coconut palm sugar comes directly from the blossoms of Indonesian coconut trees. It is made by evaporating coconut nectar from tropical palm flowers. The process of making coconut sap sugar is similar to how maple sugar crystals are made. Farmers gently hand-harvest the buds and collect the sweet nectar using traditional methods. It’s one of the healthiest and most sustainable sweeteners available. Tropical coconut palms require little water to thrive and can actually restore damaged soils and regenerate ecosystems which help support wildlife.
The idea for Lovebean sprouted in the lush landscapes of Costa Rica where I was living amidst playful howler monkeys, beautiful beaches, and oodles of cacao plantations. The raw materials were there, but finding a truly organic, healthy chocolate bar was still not an option at the local markets.
Setting out to make Costa Rica's best chocolate bar, I soon discovered that it is a very delicate art that requires lots of fancy machinery and therefore a large investment which was not an option at the time. After a few weeks tinkering with different ideas in the kitchen, my first 'chocolate bar-in-a-jar' was born.
It was a win-win situation. A delicious dark chocolate flavor with all the added benefits of Virgin Coconut Oil that was spreadable and versatile and virtually immune to the Costa Rican heat. Response at the local markets was immediately enthusiastic. A few months later I headed home to Austin to share this new superfood fudge with all the good people Stateside.
Two years down the road now and I continue to make each batch of Lovebean with love by hand in our kitchen in lovely Austin, TX. My family has joined in on the fun as well, with my sister around town rocking demos at Whole Foods, Dad doing the books, Mom as Chief Marketing Director...we're having a blast and hope you will enjoy the fruits of our efforts to bring you a truly guilt-free chocolate!
What is a Lovebean?
Our name comes from our deep love and respect for the seed of the cacao fruit, also known as the cacao bean. Unlike most other beans, this one is full of minerals and antioxidants and is the base for all pure chocolate products. We know of no other bean quite as loveable.
Who the heck is that little pudgy dude in the striped shirt?
(What guy? That guy over there on the right!)
That is Lenny the LoveBean. He's part boy, part coconut, and part cacao bean. He is actually in tremendously good shape, unfortunately he is shaped like a cacao bean so people tend to think he has a weight issue. He eats Lovebean exclusively and wins several Ironman Events each year.
Do I need to refrigerate my Fudge Spread?
That will depend on you. Our products have a one-year shelf life typically. Once opened, they should be fine at normal indoor temps for 2-3 months. At room temp, Lovebean stays nice and spreadable so if this is the way you like it, it's best to just leave it in your pantry. You may try it in the fridge if you tend to like your chocolate cold, as it takes on a much more chocolate-bar like consistency.
How do I make a Lovebean shell on top of ice cream?
Very simple ... you just need to liquify it first. To do that, scoop some Lovebean into a stainless steel pot at lowest heat setting and stir often until it becomes liquid. Then simply pour over ice cream (or anything cold) and watch the magic happen. Try dipping ice cream or sorbet bars into liquid Lovebean to give them a nice shell too.
Why does Lovebean cost more than a chocolate bar or similar chocolate nut-butter spreads?
The nut butter-based spreads are much less expensive to produce because they have a nut butter (whether peanut, almond or hazelnut) as the base which is much cheaper than Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. As well they are not typically using certified organic ingredients. Lovebean is NOT a nut butter spread. It is a pure chocolate much like a chocolate bar, using Coconut Oil in place of Cacao Butter. Pound for pound, a 280g jar of Lovebean is the equivalent of 3 to 5 standard chocolate bars. You can do the math for yourself and see we are in close competition with the organic chocolate bars out there, and we use NO cane sugar or soy lecithin fillers.
When will Lovebean be available in my local grocery store?
It really depends on the region of the country, BUT of course there are online retailers like the very one you're reading right now who are happy to serve your Lovebean needs. :-)
Are there any allergy-causing ingredients?
Our only potential allergen is coconut. NO soy, NO gluten, NO dairy, NO agave, NO other tree nuts or peanuts.
Are all your products 100% USDA Certified Organic and Vegan?
Proud to say, YES!
