I don't know exactly when I fell in love with banana bread, with or without nuts, but it was in the 1980s to be sure. The bread was dense, not crazy sweet, and flecked with those telltale black streaks from the banana fiber baking into sweet goodness. Wildway has come along and renewed my love for the combination of bananas, nuts, and gentle sweetness.
I didn't know what to expect when trying this granola - after all, it's very soft, very hearty despite the gentle sweetness. It has some of the attributes that I used to seek out in a breakfast food. In years past I was big into muesli, which emphasizes a bland comforting taste with occasional crunch from a stray nut. Overall, muesli is not very sweet and almost mushy when soaked long enough. Wildway's granola is tender and sweet, yes, but still tastes utterly amazing in kefir or tart yogurt. The flavor is not unlike a chopped up date-nut-fruit bar, the kind that we all know and love. The dates, bananas and nuts make for a darn tasty way to begin the day, if cold porridges are your style. They might be mine again, soon.

Now, you could just eat it out of the bag. This is true. However, I find it utterly amazing when paired with a sour or tart medium like unsweetened kefir for yogurt or even grass-fed heavy cream. It's possible that I have shaken a little bit of sea salt on top just because salt is great on nearly everything. Sprinkle it on top of berries instead of dairies. Go wild. Toss it with bacon bits for a powerhouse snack mix. Let your creativity go paleo.
How did they get started? Again, they tell it best.
The idea for Wildway all started while unsuccessfully searching high and low for a snack food that was not only both sweet and satisfying, but also free of any sweeteners, grains, oils, soy, dairy, and artificial colors and flavors. We are both very active, health conscious individuals who wanted something that was completely natural but also had the right balance of nutrients to give us sustained energy, fuel our workouts and recovery, and support our on-the-go, active lifestyles. Through much trial and error we eventually found the right combination of ingredients and our signature “Banana Nut” flavor was born. A gluten-free, grain-free, sweetener-free treat option that tasted like heaven without the side effects of your typical processed foods or sugar laden cereals. After a move back to the great state of Texas (where we both were raised) and job changes (Kyle as a personal trainer and Kelli as a regional pageant coordinator) we decided to take on Wildway Granola as a side project. We figured there are probably other like-minded folks out there looking for the same thing, so we decided to put our product on the market, hoping to solve this problem for other healthy individuals. We tested different versions and flavors at local retailers and farmers markets around the state. Word quickly spread about our products and soon we found ourselves full time pursuing our dream and getting our product out to the world.
What do you mean by sweetener-free?
There are no added sugars or sweeteners of any kind to our granola. No sugar, no sugar substitute, no agave, not even honey. Instead, our granola is naturally sweetened by the fruit it contains.
How is Wildway granola different from other gluten-free granolas?
Other gluten-free granolas simply use gluten-free grains as a replacement to the oats typically found in regular granola. They use things like gluten-free oats, buckwheat, quinoa, and corn as an alternative, however, Wildway granola is not only gluten-free, but it’s grain-free as well.
