After you've slugged down that cup and felt it start to trickle through to your exhausted muscles, you'll know this powder is the next best thing to a full-on plated dinner.

For the true, true stories behind this incredible foodstuff, read on.

Paleo-friendly protein powders are actually easy to find these days. (Just swing by any garage-door-style gym and see what's in those shaker bottles.) On the other hand, a full-on meal replacement powder made from real food is slightly trickier. Most of the old-style options start with soy protein and then have all kinds of extra juju that none of us need, like sugar and thickeners and vitamins straight out of a chemical plant - yuck!

Along came a guy named Harrison, who made a paleo protein powder made from the ground up and called it Rootz. It took years of experimenting with ingredients and ratios and flavors until it was just right, just perfect, and perfectly nutritious. That's why there is ONE flavor: Chocolate Banana Nut. It's like a goldilocks formula, really.

Harrison started his blend with egg white protein: super digestible and easy on the tummy. Then, he goes for the heavy-hitters of the plant world with some hemp and sacha inchi protein. The latter might not be something that slips off the tongue, but it is a seed used in Peru for thousands of years with a full spectrum of amino acids and some unexpected nutrients like Omega fatty acids. Nifty.

Flavors are brought in from coconut, banana, chocolate extract, vanilla and a hint of cinnamon.

Rounding out the wallop of this meal-in-a-scoop are some well-known boosters like super seeds, berries, greens powders, and even a bit of coconut for electrolytes. Seriously, this is a veritable ball pit of superfoods going on in here.

About Rootz, in their own words

From Harrison, the founder of Rootz: "The inspiration for Rootz came when I had taken up the Paleolithic diet in 2011, and was left with virtually no options for pre and post-workout supplementation. I began to realize that most of the products on the market were loaded with chemicals and artificial ingredients, often times dangerous, and almost never Paleo-approved.

One morning while I was a student in Ann Arbor, Michigan, I decided to try a little experiment. I went to a local health food shop, and bought a bunch of different ingredients to make my own pre and post-workout supplements. That first batch I made on day one left a lot to be desired, but it had ignited my mission to create my own pre and post-workout supplements made from real, wholesome foods.

After four years of extensive research, testing, tweaking, and feedback, I am confident in saying that I have come up with the best tasting, healthiest, and most importantly, most effective pre and post-workout nutritional supplements available. Now, I want to share them with you. I hope you enjoy."
