Curated and considered for the modern primal life

Coffee + Hazelnut + Maca Bar by Thunderbird

Remember when food-based bars were NOT on every shelf and in every purse? I do. Those old school bricks were full of chemicals and weird texture agents galore. We forget how good our nutrition bar choices are these days, but Thunderbird is here to remind us again that real food makes for a really delicious bar. Take this Coffee Hazelnut Maca crunchtastic snack. It is packed with nuts, a few seeds, lots of dates and figs, and the critical boost from both coffee beans and maca for a happy-inducing experience. Eat slowly, savoring each chew, and take another sloooow sip of that cup of black joe. Breathe. Smile.

For the true, true stories behind this incredible foodstuff, read on.

What's it like to eat this bar of goodness? Basically, it gives me Fig Newton flashbacks. That gently sweet paste with the little crunches of the seeds: this bar nails it.

Only after a few chews do I really appreciate the potency of the coffee and cacao—until this point I was just enjoying those crunchy seeds. But then, I start to feel like I'm having a chewy mocha latte and that's not at all a bad thing. The dates' softness holds everything together, and the hazelnuts lend a bit of a Nutella-like flavor that lingers with the smile on my face.

Thunderbird is the brainchild of Taylor and Katie, the same folks behind EPIC. Yes, really! This is their first company, created when they were in the thick of veganism and looking for something awesome as portable fuel. Cut to today, where EPIC is thriving but Thunderbird bars are still evolving and serving up the perfect snack that goes with you and your busy day.

Why Thunderbird bars are so good for you

There's no junk here. Nothing but nuts, seeds, fruit, spices. All combined into the tastiest combinations you can imagine. All packed up into a perfect bar. You can snarf it all at once, or savor it throughout your day.

Here are some of the amazing ingredients in Thunderbird bars:

Frequently lauded for their natural sweetness, dates are easily digested making them a quick source of fuel. The dense health benefits of dates are due to their high fiber content, vitamin A and B complexes, and their abundance of potassium. Dates are vitamin and mineral-rich — they’re particularly high in iron and vitamin K.

Another excellent source of seed based protein. A great go to simple snack that taste great and is healthy for you.

Hazelnuts have a significant place among the types of dried nuts in terms of nutrition and health because of the composition of fats (primarily oleic acid), protein, carbohydrates, vitamins (vitamin E), minerals, dietary fibers, phytosterol (beta-sitosterol), and antioxidant phenolics such as flavanols.

Cacao is rich in the antioxidant flavonoid (has 4x that of green tea). Cacao is also one of the worlds oldest food sources.

Maca is the next super-food that you will start hearing about. Plus it is a great source of iron.
