Cacao powder is made by low-temperature grinding the raw cacao bean. It’s chock-full of health-giving and beautifying fatty acids and minerals, as well as antioxidants, and nutrients that support mood and the immune system. Cacao is one of the most powerful known superfoods, and had been used for thousands of years to boost health and energy levels. Raw cacao is one of the most phytochemically complex foods on Earth. Many of its constituents have yet to even be discovered! That is Lenny the LoveBean. He's part boy, part coconut, and part cacao bean. He is actually in tremendously good shape, unfortunately he is shaped like a cacao bean so people tend to think he has a weight issue. He eats Lovebean exclusively and wins several Ironman Events each year.
Do I need to refrigerate my Fudge Spread?
That will depend on you. Our products have a one-year shelf life typically. Once opened, they should be fine at normal indoor temps for 2-3 months. At room temp, Lovebean stays nice and spreadable so if this is the way you like it, it's best to just leave it in your pantry. You may try it in the fridge if you tend to like your chocolate cold, as it takes on a much more chocolate-bar like consistency.
How do I soften my Lovebean for spreading?
Well, if your jar is in the pantry around 70-76 degrees F, you should be good to go. Otherwise, if you'd like to soften the entire jar, screw the lid on nice and tight and then submerge the lower 3/4 of the jar in warm (100 degrees F) water until noticeably softened. If you just need a little, you may scoop some into a stainless steel pot and set over lowest heat until soft enough for spreading. If you wish to liquify your lovebean completely (best for ice cream or squeeze bottle applications) keep it over the lowest heat and stir until it becomes liquid.
How do I make a Lovebean shell on top of ice cream?
Very simple ... you just need to liquify it first. To do that, scoop some Lovebean into a stainless steel pot at lowest heat setting and stir often until it becomes liquid. Then simply pour over ice cream (or anything cold) and watch the magic happen. Try dipping ice cream or sorbet bars into liquid Lovebean to give them a nice shell too.
What does it mean if I see clear liquid or hard white stuff on top?
Fear not. Lovebean is a pure and natural product, there is a chance that extreme temperature may have caused the coconut oil to separate from the mixture. If the jar is still quite warm, the coconut oil will appear as a clear liquid. If the jar has re-cooled the coconut oil will have hardened into a snow-white layer. Simply tighten the lid and place the jar in warm (not hot, never boiling) water until the mixture softens and then slowly re-mix with a fork until you reach a consistent texture.
Why does Lovebean cost more than a chocolate bar or similar chocolate nut-butter spreads?
The nut butter-based spreads are much less expensive to produce because they have a nut butter (whether peanut, almond or hazelnut) as the base which is much cheaper than Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. As well they are not typically using certified organic ingredients. Lovebean is NOT a nut butter spread. It is a pure chocolate much like a chocolate bar, using Coconut Oil in place of Cacao Butter. Pound for pound, a 280g jar of Lovebean is the equivalent of 3 to 5 standard chocolate bars. You can do the math for yourself and see we are in close competition with the organic chocolate bars out there, and we use NO cane sugar or soy lecithin fillers.
When will Lovebean be available in my local grocery store?

Are there any allergy-causing ingredients?

There are so many ways to Spread the Love! Here's a few starting points, then let your imagination run wild.
The idea for Lovebean sprouted in the lush landscapes of Costa Rica where I was living amidst playful howler monkeys, beautiful beaches, and oodles of cacao plantations. The raw materials were there, but finding a truly organic, healthy chocolate bar was still not an option at the local markets.
Setting out to make Costa Rica's best chocolate bar, I soon discovered that it is a very delicate art that requires lots of fancy machinery and therefore a large investment which was not an option at the time. After a few weeks tinkering with different ideas in the kitchen, my first 'chocolate bar-in-a-jar' was born.
It was a win-win situation. A delicious dark chocolate flavor with all the added benefits of Virgin Coconut Oil that was spreadable and versatile and virtually immune to the Costa Rican heat. Response at the local markets was immediately enthusiastic. A few months later I headed home to Austin to share this new superfood fudge with all the good people Stateside.
Two years down the road now and I continue to make each batch of Lovebean with love by hand in our kitchen in lovely Austin, TX. My family has joined in on the fun as well, with my sister around town rocking demos at Whole Foods, Dad doing the books, Mom as Chief Marketing Director...we're having a blast and hope you will enjoy the fruits of our efforts to bring you a truly guilt-free chocolate!
