Liver. Yuck. Liver. Superfood. See the problem here?
Have your liver and don't eat it, too! Vital Proteins has thrown a lifeline to the majority of the paleo-sphere who are not liver-lovers. Sure, eating whole foods is the ideal, but if you choose to seek liver's nutrients without its taste, you have found your organ-meat soulmate in these little capsules.
You kind of have to admit that this is the best thing ever for people who both appreciate the nutrients of organ meats but Just. Can't. Handle. Liver.
I'm one of the strange folks, the ones who are totally fine with pan-fried liver, pate, liverwurst, all of it. But I know I am in the minority, even amongst whole-food devotees like the Paleo community. That majority of the liver-dubious would love to have an option to benefit from liver's nutrition, too. Vital Proteins is stepping up to help with these capsules. Have your liver and don't eat it, too!
What about taste? I'm sure that many of us have experienced the dreaded "fish burps" when taking fish oil capsules or even our beloved Paleo fermented cod liver oil. Because those are fatty and tend to digest slowly, the risk of aftertaste is understandably high. Not so with liver! It is such a relief to realize that you can take these superfood pills, made from real food, and not have lingering effects until your next meal. If the mere thought of any aftertaste is, well, distasteful, make sure to take the supplement with other food to help digestion. No matter how you take them, the benefits are real and the taste is zilch. How perfect is that?
Oh, come on . . . how could these be any better for you?!
Grass-fed animals are loaded with higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are better for both cardiovascular health and contain anti-inflammatory properties. They also have significantly higher values of vitamins A and E as well as antioxidants.
For athletes, grass-fed meat is particularly favorable in that it contains up to twice the levels of conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, which promotes the development of lean muscle tissue and lowers the risk for a myriad of other health problems.
Throughout human history our ancestors have cherished the innate nutrient rich organ meats of wild game. In particular liver was regarded as sacred due to the belief that eating the organ from a healthy animal would improve the strength and vitality of the hunter. That makes sense considering how rich in nutrients even small portions of liver can be, making it one of the most important organ meats we can eat now as modern humans living with nutrient-poor staple foods. How great is liver? Liver is one of the most nutrient-dense foods in existence, and contains many nutrients that are difficult to get elsewhere. It is, frankly, nature's most potent nutrient-dense superfood.
High in Vitamin A, B12, Folate, Riboflavin, Zinc, Copper, and Choline. The capsules are independent lab tested for nutrient content.
Sourced from Pasture-Raised, Grass-fed New Zealand Beef
3400 IU (70% DV) Vitamin A per serving, 13.6 mcg (230% DV) B12 per serving
Not a lot of creativity here: take the capsules as a supplement with meals. Now . . . are you an extreme liver fan? I guess you could open up the pills and sprinkle them on your food as a seasoning. This is actually not as strange as it seems – I personally own a jar of salted dried fish roe to use as seasoning. Your mileage may vary.
We believe that whole food based nutrition is essential for one’s overall health, fitness and wellbeing. Our ancestors utilized sustainable whole animal nutrition, which provided abundant amounts of nutrients. Over the past century modern food processing has removed many whole foods from our diets.
We are dedicated to providing 100% natural, whole food proteins that support animal wellbeing and sustainable eco-friendly practices. Our happy cows openly graze on lush natural grass pastures providing the highest quality of nutrients.
Vital Proteins' Liver Capsules are sourced from pasture raised bovine hides from Brazil to ensure a natural, high quality, and sustainable source of this ancient nutritional powerhouse. What a cow eats profoundly affects the animal's health, and the nutritional quality of its milk, meat, and hide. Our cattle graze solely on lush grasslands in Brazil and are not given hormones, steroids, or antibiotics. They eat their natural diet – grass, and receive plenty of open space and sunshine. We believe in providing our animals with an environment that nature intended, and the result is a high quality supplement that is natural and pure.
How are the cattle raised?
Vital Proteins produces its products, from collagen to liver, in Brazil. The cattle industry in Brazil is based on perennial tropical grass pasture systems. We have taken great care to ensure that the pasture size for each animal is one animal per 2.67 acres. These standards are in alignment with the Global Animal Partnership 5-step animal welfare rating standards.
Why choose Brazilian raised cattle?
The cattle industry in Brazil is still based on grass systems, where the cattle are pasture raised and pasture finished. This constitutes an important advantage for Brazilian cattle.
Since the cattle were pasture-raised and grass fed, this eliminates the risk of rBGH in their feed. Brazil also has a law (Decree No 57 824 Article 4(4)) which prohibits the addition of hormones to feed. The hormone rBGH is typically injected into dairy cows to make them produce more milk. The Nelore breed is not a dairy producing cow and is strictly used as a beef breed.
Do I have to take collagen with meals?
Answer: Vital Proteins collagen products can be taken by themselves as a stand alone supplement or be taken with food.
Are there any other ingredients or fillers?
Answer: No. No artificial ingredients or addtiives are used.
