For the primally-inclined, there’s just something special about wild foods. This honey will transport you to another place and time, infusing your body and soul with a bit of wild sweetness and amazing healing properties. It’s hard to go back to farmed honey after you’ve tasted wild — the dimensions of flavor are so explosive, and the health benefits so much more profound.

For the true, true stories behind this incredible foodstuff, read on.

I’ll admit it: I’ve got a sweet tooth. I’ve tempered it over the years, as my diet has improved, but I still appreciate the effects of a touch of sweetener in everything from braised meats to nut milks. We evolved to crave sweet foods, and although excess refined sugar and high-fructose corn syrup are obviously responsible for a host of health problems, I think it’s fine to use a bit of healthy sweetener occasionally if your mind and body seem to like it. A touch of sweetener can transform foods quite wonderfully, especially if your palate is accustomed to very little sweetness, and you can really enjoy the dimensions it brings.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I’m going to rave about Heavenly Organics Neem Wild Forest Honey. This stuff tastes like no honey you’ve ever had before. It’s got a bouquet like chai tea — all exotic spicy goodness, and it tastes like gingerbread and dark toffee and the distinctive essence of honey itself — warm and enveloping and wildly floral. The first time I tasted it, I felt my tastebuds expand in new directions — I felt like I was tasting honey for the first time. There’s so much “counterfeit” honey out there; it’s reassuring to know that this stuff is not only real, it’s got a pedigree and terroir richer than most anything.

But watch first!

Heavenly Organics Neem Wild Forest Honey is collected using cruelty-free methods from wild bee hives by indigenous tribes in the dense virgin forests of Central India. This area is famous in South Asia for the collection of wild-crafted herbs used in the preparations of Ayurvedic medicines. Chief among these is Neem, known in India as "the village pharmacy," and prized throughout the world for its wide-ranging health benefits.

Yes, this honey not only tastes amazing, but it’s got medicinal properties too. Neem honey is highly esteemed in Ayurveda — used to treat high blood pressure, diabetes, skin conditions, periodontal infections, throat infections and allergies. High-quality raw honey is actually a wonderful superfood in its own right. It’s not an accident that your grandmother had you drink tea with honey when you were sick as a child. For centuries, honey has been used to treat all sorts of ailments — raw honey has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties. Each batch of Heavenly Organics Wild Forest Honey has unique health-promoting properties provided by the variety of seasonal flowers blooming at the time of harvest. Many people have found that they’ve stopped a cold or flu virus in the early stages by taking wild forest honey.

All the more reason for you to feel no guilt when you add a spoonful of this miraculous amber liquid to your almond milk, braised lamb shanks, or agua de chia. If you do dairy, it’s especially amazing on blue cheese — its deep complex flavor pairs perfectly with a good blue.

And just in case you wanted yet more reasons to love this honey, you’ll be pleased to know that Heavenly Organics is obsessively rigorous about purity, fair trade, animal welfare and sustainability. They’re going above and beyond, operating from a deep values basis and doing everything right. Yes, this honey is fairly traded, supports indigenous communities, and is actually bee-friendly. This is a honey you can feel great about on every level.

Wild Forest Honey is 100% raw and unheated, preserving all the delicate enzymes and health-promoting qualities derived from the flower essences. This honey is produced by indigenous wild rock bees, not domesticated honeybees.

For the primally-inclined, there’s just something special about wild foods. Neem Wild Forest Honey will transport you to another place and time, infusing your body and soul with a bit of wild sweetness. It’s hard to go back to farmed honey after you’ve tasted wild — the dimensions of flavor are so explosive, and the health benefits so much more profound.

About Heavenly Organics, in their own words

Heavenly Organics was founded in 2005.

However, our story began over 25 years earlier, when Amit Hooda was a young boy growing up around conflict during the Punjab Insurgency. The experience of living near a conflict zone stayed with him.

Amit’s family home in the countryside of Northern India was steeped in vibrant culture, ancient traditions and vast wilderness. Amit had a pet cow, a buffalo and a great organic garden. He was taught to live a purist life from his altruistic mother and renowned agronomist father, Dr. I.S. Hooda. Amit loved living off of the land and had a great respect for all living things.  He often contemplated how he could help people living in isolated and conflict areas of the world and discussed these ideas with his father.

For over 35 years, Dr. I.S. Hooda had cultivated relationships with small farmers to help preserve traditional and sustainable organic farming methods while helping them earn a living from selling their delicious organic goods. In the untouched forests of India live wild beehives that contain the most pure and delicious honey varietals known to humankind.

Amit’s father was an integral influence in developing a sustainable, bee-friendly and smoke-free method of extracting the honey and worked with local honey harvesters to teach them this method.

Amit eventually decided to pursue a higher education in the United States.  His parents encouraged him to attend the Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in Fairfield, Iowa to continue his studies and spiritual growth (MUM is consciousness-based education, where all students practice the Transcendental Meditation method and study traditional academic programs).  While attending school and studying Computer Science, Amit and his father continued talking about how they could help eliminate conflict in areas of Northern and Central India and parts of the Himalayas, where conflict was still present.

They came up with the premise that the only way to eliminate conflict is to provide the people in these areas with ethical job opportunities. The duo saw the potential in combining this idea with Amit’s father’s organic agriculture projects, and the idea of Heavenly Organics was born.

In 2004, Amit and his father made it official by building worker-owned cooperatives to foster long-term trade partnerships that mutually benefit both farmers and consumers.
Today, Heavenly Organics supports nearly 600 family farmers and produces 100% Organic Raw Honey, Chocolate Honey Patties and 100% Organic Whole Cane Sugar.

This work helps displaced people find markets to sell their goods and ensures them a reliable income.  Without it, their means of livelihood would be very limited.  For the past decade, Heavenly Organics has been leading the authentic fair trade movement and creating big change.  Our goal is to increase the number of farmers we work with to 5,000 in the next five years and to extend this business model into other countries to help create long-lasting sustainable economies in other isolated areas and conflict zones.  Our company was built on the belief that profits can create peace, and we will continue to expand on Dr. I.S. Hooda’s early visions of respecting the earth, animals, humankind, and all who contribute to the circle of life.
