Curated and considered for the modern primal life

Turkey Cranberry Bar by Wilde Snacks

Turkey is truly the most wondrous of the holiday meats. Far more flavor than chicken, far less weirdly salty than that ham, and let’s not even talk about the complications with goose. Turkey pairs with squash, tart berries, and herbs like no other. But who has time to count the days until Thanksgiving? Not I. Not you. We can, however, tear open this Turkey Cranberry bar from Wilde Foods and have a little celebratory snack any day. Each bite bursts with those requisite herbs of sage & parsley, the gentle sweetness of butternut squash, and the chewy tart of cranberries.

For the true, true stories behind this incredible foodstuff, read on.

Start with free-range turkey with butternut squash, parsley, sage and make it portable and oh-so-tempting, without the pie. Basically like Thanksgiving dinner as a paleo-friendly snack. This gently tender baked bar from Wilde Snacks is quite the wonderful addition to my gym bag, and yours.

These bars are loaded with chia seeds and flax for texture and lots of tangy cranberries. Big bits of cranberries, actually. Underneath it all is free-range turkey with perfect tenderness and a healthy pedigree. I loved eating this bar, though I wished the balancing ingredients of squash and parsley were as front and center as the cranberries. And, thankfully, I don't feel the need to have some pie after eating this bar.

While tasting, I attempted to slow down in order to have a few bites left after all of my note-taking was done, but I failed. It was too good. Each bite led to another and another and then the bar was no more.

This was the intent of Wilde Snacks: to make irresistible yet nutritious Paleo friendly meat bars, more diverse in flavors than what was already available. Sure, there are really good meat bars out there, filled with great ingredients. But some of them are rather simple and intense, flavor-wise. Wilde Snacks has made the meat bar friendly and darn near addictive.

Why Turkey Cranberry Bars by Wilde Snacks are so good for you

Without going completely poetic here, it's the combination of superfoods, real ingredients, and love that makes these bars nearly melt in your mouth. It's like breakfast, but portable and convenient.

First, there's organic meat—turkey, in this bar—that comes from nothing but free-range turkeys that were raised without hormones or antibiotics. Then comes the ancient ingredients like seeds and dried fruits for extra flavor and crunch. Veggies follow, and spices. The whole thing is baked. Sloooooowly. What results is a dense but soft bar that will satiate your cravings and quiet that rumbling tummy.

It might also keep you away from having something less ideal, like something from a vending machine or a protein bar with processed junk in it, even if the bar is kind of sort of nutritious. Wilde Snacks is here for you.

Here are some of the amazing superfoods in the Turkey Cranberry Bar:

Turkey

Turkey meat is nutritionally quite impressive. It’s loaded with protein, low in fat, rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy omega fats. Here are some of the most awesome things about turkey:

  1. Turkey is an exceptionally dense source of nutrient-rich protein, which has recently been shown to fall into a group of high-protein foods that can help keep post-meal insulin levels within a desirable range.
  2. In terms of minerals, turkey particularly rich in selenium, and also contains high levels of zinc, copper, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, and iron. Turkey is richer in calcium than any other meat.
  3. All B vitamins are present in turkey meat, including B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, folate, biotin, and choline.
  4. Turkey (together with chicken) has emerged as a food associated with decreased pancreatic cancer risk
Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are made for growth - just remember those Chia pet ads from the 1980s? Yep, me too. Chias are one of the only plant-based foods with Omega-3 fatty acids. That's good for your cells, your tissues, and your heart. Awesome.

Cranberries

Cranberries are a native North American berry packed with antioxidants, Vitamin C, and manganese, not to mention lots of other great nutrients in moderate amounts. They're tart and delicious!

How to eat Wilde Snacks bars:

  1. Can you say, snack attack?
  2. In the gym bag, ready for post-workout bliss (and avoiding the snack bar)
  3. In your desk drawer, perfect for vending machine avoidance
  4. Bake them. No, really. Place on a baking sheet and add a slice of Swiss cheese before toasting the whole thing into a sort of paleo pizza. Yum. You now have a "twice baked paleo bar".
  5. Buried at the bottom of your purse and then discovered accidentally in a hungry state. Yay!
  6. Tucked into a kid's lunch to soothe their craving for something chewy
  7. You come up with your own awesome eating strategy!

Here are answers to some of your most important questions!

What makes Wilde Snacks bars so much better than something like, say, a Clif bar?

Good question, and one easy to answer: no grains, no syrups, no weird stuff. Wilde Snacks bars are slow-baked, made from real food like turkey or chicken and fruit and seeds. They're delicious, unlike some jerkies that take some chewing power and a little bit of habit to fall in love with.
