Turkey Jerky by The New Primal - 2 oz

Bacon. Turkey. Chewy. Jerky. Say it again, faster. baconturkeychewyjerky. This is The New Primal and this is the turkey jerky you've been waiting for. Forget about that stuff from the convenience store, the big-box discount place, or the quirky little 'aloha' grocery mart; THIS jerky is pretty much all you need. Hitting on all flavor palate buttons from salty to umami to (a wee bit) sweet to just plain delicious, it's what you need for snacks, workouts, travel, and beyond. Honestly, it's cool enough to bring back the idea of legitimate turkey bacon. Maybe.

For the true, true stories behind this incredible foodstuff, read on.

Either you love jerky or you don't. Jerky lovers, then, fall into the chewy or dry camps, too. The "dry" fans don't love stringy or dried-out jerky, rather they care for those thin, sharp, almost bacon-esque crunchy strips of meat. That's not where we are going today. We are going to take a trip to chewy-ville.

The chewy-fans love moist and tender cuts, full of flavor and umami and punch. This is where The New Primal thrives. Take this turkey jerky, for starters. Tear open the simple and lovely packaging and peek at the morsels inside. Each one is mild like poultry yet vibrant with meatiness and salt. Would it be too much to call this a tasty mash-up of chewy bacon and moist turkey? Perhaps, but each bite leaves me wanting just a little bit more. Clearly the flavors are working well.

That's what I like about their formula - just take really excellent turkeys and add just a few flavor friends, then let nature set the course for how the jerky is going to taste. This recipe nudges up the flavor with a touch of honey and pineapple (for that awesome teriyaki taste), then tarts up things with apple cider vinegar. Everything is rounded out with spices and a bit of salt. Done!

What does The New Primal have to say about their own turkeys? They're happy and proud about where and how their turkeys are raised:

The protection of nature lies in quality pastures. Livestock should evolve naturally and at its own pace with lush grasses, clean water, and pure air. That is why our turkey originates from a multi-generational family owned and operated farm in central California, where they are raised humanely and free from GMO’s in their feed. Pitman Farms is home to free-range, antibiotic-free turkeys that roam in areas four times the size of average commercial turkey ranches. Opposed to the meat you find in the supermarket, our turkeys’ clean diets provide the optimum amount of nutrients for the turkey to grow into a healthier, more flavorful animal.

Why turkey is so good for you

Turkey meat is nutritionally quite impressive. It’s loaded with protein, low in fat, rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy omega fats. Here are some of the most awesome things about turkey:

  1. Turkey is an exceptionally dense source of nutrient-rich protein, which has recently been shown to fall into a group of high-protein foods that can help keep post-meal insulin levels within a desirable range.
  2. In terms of minerals, turkey particularly rich in selenium, and also contains high levels of zinc, copper, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, and iron. Turkey is richer in calcium than any other meat.
  3. All B vitamins are present in turkey meat, including B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, folate, biotin, and choline.
  4. Turkey (together with chicken) has emerged as a food associated with decreased pancreatic cancer risk

About The New Primal, in their own words

"Does the old adage, “you are what you eat” still ring true? I believe it does.

In 2009, I embarked on a journey to improve my health. Portable protein kept me on track. Disappointed in not being able to find anything that met my high standards for whole food, I started making jerky at home. Three years (and 6 dehydrators) later, I quit my day job and The New Primal was born.

We are a company built on honesty, transparency and integrity and hope to inspire everyone who encounters our brand to make better food choices. You are what you eat. Choose wisely.
