Curated and considered for the modern primal life

Vanilla Maple Coco-Roons by Wonderfully Raw - 6 oz

Coco-Roons are moist and rich and perfectly flavored and just plain scrumptious. They can absolutely hold their own next to any non-healthy cookie you might encounter. And yet they’re good for you. You might be skeptical, because there are some pretty sad macaroons out there pretending to be healthy or tasty or both. But Coco-Roons are not a compromise cookie. Using only a few impeccable raw organic ingredients, Wonderfully Raw has developed an incredible range of amazing Coco-Roon flavors. And although the flavors are utterly sublime, the dense-but-light ultra-moist texture is what really makes these macaroons so special.

For the true, true stories behind this incredible foodstuff, read on.

I love cookies. I’ve always loved cookies, and I’ll probably always love cookies. Yeah, I know that’s not a very primal thing to say, but I grew up in a standard American household eating a standard American diet. And cookies pretty much equaled happiness and love and joy. Which isn’t a very good equation when it comes to being happy and healthy all at once, but it’s the modern American predicament, and it’s the reason why 2/3 of Americans are overweight or obese. The cookies thing just isn’t working for us.

So maybe we decide to make some changes, go primal or paleo, eat healthy whole foods, cut the sugar. But we still crave cookies. And the more we try to resist the cookies, the more they rear their crunchy chewy buttery heads, beckoning to us from bakery shelves, appearing on massive platters, showing up at gatherings of all sorts. It’s hard to avoid cookies, and it’s hard to eat just one.

So what are we supposed to do about the cookie thing? A lot of people are working on this dire problem. And a lot of them have veered off in a not-entirely-positive direction. In the interest of making cookies that are “healthy,” they end up making cookies that are kind of gross. Sure, they’re okay if you squint and don’t think too hard about what you’re eating. But they don’t really satisfy that deep craving that only real true cookies will.

And here’s where Coco-Roons come in. They are moist and rich and sweet and perfectly flavored and just plain scrumptious. They can absolutely hold their own next to any non-healthy cookie you might encounter. And yet they’re good for you. Yes, they’re actually a healthy thing to put in your body. You might be skeptical, because there are some pretty sad macaroons out there pretending to be healthy or tasty or both. But just take my word for it, as somebody who spent decades seeking out the most sublime and life-changing baked goods from bakeries all around the world before shifting to a more primal way of eating. I know from amazing cookies, and Coco-Roons are not a compromise cookie. They’re just all-out delicious.

Using only a few impeccable raw organic ingredients, Sequioa Cheney and her team at Wonderfully Raw have developed an incredible range of Coco-Roon flavors, all based on a core recipe of unsweetened coconut, almond flour, vanilla extract, unfiltered maple syrup, cold-pressed coconut oil, and Himalayan crystal salt. All of her flavors are so pure and perfectly layered that it’s impossible to say which is my favorite. The basic Vanilla Maple is powerful in its simplicity — like a perfect sugar cookie or vanilla ice cream, it’s much more than the sum of its parts. Everything harmonizes into a beautifully-balanced whole, gentle and deep, with flavor peaks of coconut, maple and salt merging into one gorgeous place.

And although the flavors are utterly sublime, the dense-but-light ultra-moist texture is what really makes these macaroons so special. As every cookie aficionado knows, texture is all-important. And Coco-Roons are doing something pretty special, texture-wise. They’ve got a slightly dry exterior, which quickly gives way to an interior so moist it’s like you’re eating raw cookie dough. They’re not too dense and not too crumble-light — they’re just the perfect tender consistency. Every bite comes out clean and satisfying, no weird hard coconut threads, no ill-defined mush, no tooth-hurtingly cloying oversweetness. You’re not going to want more than a few of these at a time — they’re so filling and rich, and they’re made of real ingredients that will satisfy your body and soul deeply. Yes, it’s possible to be happy and healthy all at once. You just need to know where to look.

Check out this video from the show, InFocus, that tells the story of how a diabetic (type-2) Sequoia Cheney discovered raw food. It saved her. Then, she founded this company, Wonderfully Raw...and we're all the beneficiary of it. Whether you're a raw foodie, or just love delicious food like us, dig in and eat to your heart's delight.

Why are Coco-Roons so good for you?

Made with all raw organic ingredients, masterfully sourced, totally gluten-free, low-glycemic (estimated load is 3!), these are nutritionally impeccable. Here’s what’s going on inside:

Coconut

Coconut has been used by many cultures worldwide for thousands of years, and is well known for its many amazing properties. Coconut is so nutritious, its list of benefits reads like a patent medicine bottle.  It’s full of health-boosting lauric acid and medium-chain triglycerides, has antimicrobial and anti-viral qualities, and has been shown to help with weight loss, Alzheimer’s, cognitive function and athletic performance. It nourishes the thyroid, helps prevent candida overgrowth, boosts the metabolism, and makes skin and hair softer. Many people eat several tablespoons of coconut oil daily, for the incredible host of benefits it confers. Also, it’s one of the tastiest things a person could eat. (No offense, sea veggies.)

Almonds

Almonds are naturally delicious and extremely nourishing. Healthy fats, fiber, antioxidants, calcium, zinc, selenium, copper, magnesium, manganese, tryptophan and vitamin E are just a handful of the key nutrients that make almonds so nutritious. Almonds are so nutritious — their list of benefits reads like a patent medicine bottle. They’re full of health-giving fats, like oleic acid and linoleic acid, powerful antioxidants that can protect against many forms of cancer (oleic acid can protect women against breast cancer specifically), and can also significantly lower the amount of LDL in your blood, and reduce your risk for heart disease.  Almonds can effectively improve your complexion, slow down your aging process, help improve your blood profile by reducing your LDL, build a strong immune system, prevent the onset of high blood pressure and protect you from other diseases like ADHD, asthma and osteoporosis. They can also help speed up your metabolism, and work well in weight control. A wonderful natural sweetness and impressive variety of nutrients makes almonds one of nature’s most perfect foods.

Maple syrup

Maple syrup, the delicious concentrated lifeblood of maple trees, is also a wonderful source of key nutrients. It’s an excellent source of manganese and a good source of zinc.

  1. The trace mineral manganese is an essential cofactor in a number of enzymes important in energy production and antioxidant defenses. It has also been shown to help with “good” cholesterol.
  2. Maple syrup is a good sweetener to use if you are trying to protect the health of your heart. The zinc supplied by maple syrup, in addition to acting as an antioxidant, has other functions that can decrease the progression of atherosclerosis.
  3. Zinc is concentrated more highly in the prostate than in any other human tissue, and low levels of zinc in this gland relate to a higher risk for prostate cancer. Maple syrup may help to support reproductive health and provides special benefits for men.
  4. Zinc and manganese are also important allies in the immune system.

Here's a little background on Sequoia Cheney, CEO & Macaroon Maven

Sequoia always had a passion for good food, that wasn’t always good for her. When life threw her a curve ball and she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, she knew something had to change if she wanted to heal herself.  That began the road to good health.  Sequoia always loved to eat, not necessarily to cook.  She turned to her son Eric for inspiration.  Eric Hara, renowned chef in New York City, encouraged his mom to be creative. Sequoia knew in her heart there was a way to create delicious food that was also good for her.   She found her way to Living Light Culinary Institute in Mendocino, California, where she trained with the best raw food chefs in the business, and gained the knowledge of how to prepare food that could support and heal the body. She was ready to embark on this journey. She sparked that passion inside of herself and was amazed how she could create food that not only tasted delicious but could heal.  Sequoia is now medication-free and her blood sugar is normal. After teaching raw food classes and selling her food to the local community, Sequoia was encouraged to get her food to the market.  Hence the beginning of Wonderfully Raw Gourmet! Now this dynamic duo mother and son team has come together to create the amazingly delicious “Coco-Roons,” using only the finest organic ingredients.  Join us on the journey to good health with our great tasting treats!
