Tex Mex Dipping Sauce (+easy meal inspiration)

Posted on May 21, 2014 by Alyssa Cassidy

While browsing grilling tips and Cinco de Mayo recipes last week, I stumbled upon a great vegan recipe site which has this amazing little recipe for a Tex Mex dip that they use, drizzled on sweet potato. Many times during cookouts, we throw some frozen sweet potato fries (organic, no additives) in the oven to enjoy with our main course and this dip seemed like the perfect accompaniment. I tweaked it just a little and it came out great! Here’s how to make it yourself.

Tex Mex Dipping Sauce

  • 1 tsp each of: garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, chili powder
  • Pinch salt
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 3 tbsp Dastony sesame seed butter
  • .5 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tsp raw honey
  • 3 tbsp water

(makes about half a cup)

Mix all together well and serve immediately! I found it thickens up a bit when chilled so better to whip this up right before eating.

Need some extra inspiration

  • Take a pork tenderloin and toss it in the crock pot for about 6 hours. Cover with salt, pepper, garlic, and some water or broth.
  • Once tender, drain water, pull meat apart and cover with any leftover BBQ sauce you might have from making your ribs (find the recipe here, just 4 ingredients)
  • Chop some cabbage into thin strips (coleslaw like) and toss in this tahini sauce.
  • Make your favorite paleo taco shells, fill with pulled bbq pork, top with Tex Mex Tahini, and chow down!
