Superfood Lattes: Turmeric Golden Milk Mushroom + Mushroom Matcha

Turmeric Golden Milk Latte

I'll be honest, the first time I heard about these drinks I was... skeptical. I'm always down to try new things though. After a couple of these mushroom drinks, I'm definitely hooked. Why? Superfoods, ya'll. I know the term is thrown around a lot in our health-centric niche, but hear my out.

Four Sigmatic is a superfood company founded by a group of Finnish friends. It is based on their belief that health can be vastly improved through simple dietary tweaks. The easiest way to do this? Mushrooms, the most scientifically studied and proven superfood. Four Sigmatic wants to popularize medicinal mushrooms by incorporating them in popular products like coffee and elixirs.

Why MUSHROOMS?

Why, indeed. You may not realize this but mushrooms make the world go round. They are in 40% of Western medicines (like penicillin!) and they have been researched in every possible way for thousands of years.

Because mushrooms are so integral to clinical practices, thousands of studies have been conducted and papers have been written testifying to their incredible healing properties—to date, 1,100 papers have been published on just one single type of mushroom, of which there are more than 10,000 known varieties in North America alone.

Interestingly, most people don’t consume these healthy types of mushrooms, so adding even small amounts could lead to significant health benefits. During the last couple of generations, mushrooms have suffered from quite a bit of stereotyping from "magical" jokes to the "snootiness" of portobellos or truffles. All this despite the fact that they are suitable to almost any diet, from Paleo to vegan.

So, about these elixirs, eh?

Each Four Sigmatic Mushroom Elixir is made with a different mushroom, used for different benefits.

First up is the Lion's Mane Elixir

Recognized for their brain-boosting properties, these delicious mushrooms have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years. Recently, science has focused on lion’s mane’s exceptional regenerative effects on our nervous system. Coffee can be an outstanding productivity booster, but even more so when enhanced with a good lion’s mane extract!

The natural nootropic (cognitive boosting) effects of lion’s mane work hand-in-hand with the stimulating effects of coffee to create the perfect state of mind. Their lion’s mane mushroom extract is made by dual-extracting these wood-grown fruiting bodies, and then spray-drying it without any fillers or carriers. The final extract powder is standardized to 30 percent polysaccharide (more than 15 percent beta-glucan) content.

Next we've got the Chaga Elixir:

Chaga contains numerous B vitamins, flavonoids, phenols, minerals, and enzymes. It is also one of the world’s densest sources of pantothenic acid, phenolic compounds and chromogenic complex. Chaga contains wild-source minerals and is particularly high in copper, calcium, potassium, manganese, zinc, and iron. Yet, its most potent ingredient is a special substance known as superoxide dismutase (SOD), whose function is to halt oxidation, especially the toxicity of a free radical known as singlet oxygen. Chaga is consumed daily by some of the most long-lived populations in the world.

By highly alkaline-forming chaga mushroom extract to coffee, which simultaneously solves the acidity problem and results in a smoother taste. The powerful antioxidants, anti-viral effects, and immune-boosting properties of chaga mushrooms transform your cup of Joe from an energy-boosting treat to a health-enhancing choice!

Four Sigmatic has made these little packets of shrooms super conveniently available, just pour into your favorite warm liquid, and enjoy. Coffee, tea, the options are endless, but if you need a couple ideas to get you started, here are some fun Mushroom Lattes for you to try. The elixirs add a slight earthy flavor, so play around with your favorite mix-ins to create a drink tailored to your taste.
