This gets my vote as one of the best things to happen to bone broth in the last few years: Tomato & Spice Beef Bone Broth. Grab some high-quality cheese and you've recreated the essence of the classic American food combination: grilled cheese with tomato soup. We loved it as kids because it was simple to prepare yet pleases all generations. Get ready for those delicious memories to come flooding back when you take a sip of this rich bone broth. That's right: real-deal beef bone broth from grass-fed animals has met its match with zesty tomatoes and herbs. All you need to do is warm it up (and go find some cheese of equal caliber) and start sipping. ~
For the true, true stories behind this incredible foodstuff, read on.
Grass-fed beef is almost the poster animal for Paleo eating: sustainable, nutritious, and pretty darn tasty, to boot. But take the essence of the best grass-fed beef and distill it though a careful process down to liquid and you have something magical that can repair tissues and warm the body: bone broth. This is what you'll taste from Bare Bones Broth: nutrition in a cup.
What you've got here couldn't be more perfect of a broth: savory, salty, even a bit tangy from a hefty dose of organic tomato. It even comes in a most wondrous package from the minds of Bare Bones Broth. They began producing broths in 2014 to meet a discerning kind of health-focused person like you and me, and wanted to get these flavors out to the world.
When you sip this broth you'll find such a well-balanced bouquet of flavors that it might be hard to even use it in any recipe. Never fear, though, you can order more!
Each container (conveniently packaged in a BPA-free pouch with a screw-top!) contains nothing but nutrient-rich nectar from slow-simmered bones and organic tomatoes, augmented by organic herbs and spices. There is no cooking on your part required; just heat and sip, or use in recipes. You'll taste the bold beefy flavor, nicely balanced by herbs like coriander, parsley, thyme, and rosemary and just the right ZING from tomatoes and savoriness from sea salt.
Why Tomato & Spice Beef Bone Broth is so good for you
Bare Bones Broth takes pride in using only bones from animals that were humanely raised on open pastures with clean diets free of antibiotics, hormones and grains. They prioritize this above all else because what goes into the animals body goes into our bodies. They only use organic vegetables and herbs and their water is filtered, ensuring the final product is as pure and flavorful as it is packed full of vitamins, minerals and gelatin.
Each of their broths are slowly simmered for 24 hours using steam instead of an open flame. This is a much more gentle and efficient cooking method, reducing the amount of energy required to extract nutrients while ensuring they are getting every last nutrient and flavor morsel possible from the ingredients. Once the simmer is complete, they remove all the fat, impurities, and sediment before reducing the broth to concentrate the nutrients and flavor. This process is really what allows them to create the most pure broth on the market. Here is their goal as a business: "The day we're no longer the most nutrient-dense and highest quality broth on the market is the day we'll shut our doors."
On top of all that, their broths are free of gluten, dairy, soy, preservatives, MSG, powders, added flavorings and added colorings, and all of their protein sources come from certified GAP (Global Animal Partnership) ranches here in the US.
Here are some of the amazing ingredients in Tomato & Spice Beef Bone Broth:
Grass Fed Beef
When you take the meaty bones of any animal (in this case, grass-fed beef), complete with their protective cartilage and other attachments, and simmer it for hours and hours with a few aromatics, you get magic. All of those attachments break down, slowly, and they add some amazing nutrients to the liquid: collagen turns into gelatin, proline, glycine, arginine, and glutamine amino acids join the party, and glucosamine and chrondroitin are present and ready to help you heal.
Not to mention, there are some serious minerals all ready to absorb: calcium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus. They slowly get incorporated into the broth over many, many hours (this is why beef bone broth needs about 24 hours to be fully ready and the most nutritious) from the bones themselves. Here are some of the many qualities of this beef bone broth:
- 100% grass-fed & humanely raised beef
- Fresh organic vegetables & herbs
- 12 grams protein per serving
- No added flavorings or preservatives
- No added antibiotics, growth stimulants, or hormones
- Gluten-free, soy-free, paleo certified, whole30 approved
- BPA-free & eco-friendly pouch
How to enjoy Bare Bones Broth:

- the best gravy base ever
- braising meats or veggies
- protein recovery drink - perfect after a winter workout!
- green smoothies (replace any liquid called for) - yes, for real!
Bare Bones Broth's story, in their own words
Ryan Harvey's father passed away at age 39 from a sudden heart attack, forever changing the future course of life for his son. After years in the military and becoming fascinated by food and restaurant culture, Ryan trained in kitchens under amazing chefs and was impressed and saddened by what he saw. Those chefs, the ones who held ingredients in the highest regard, did not often follow their ingredients through to the source, nor did they follow it forward to think about the health of the diner. Chefs also seemed to be so engaged with their work that they neglected their own health (even those deep into the farm-to-table movement). Ryan knew this was not the career path for him. In 2014, he started making broth to showcase great ingredients and the health that results:
"I decided I wanted to tell a different story. And what better way to begin my story than to take the base of all cooking (stock) and reinvent it. What if I take this timeless staple, used in kitchens around the world for generations, and breathe new life into it not just as an ingredient, but as a source of serious nourishment, while simultaneously telling the farm-to-table story so important to the health of our food system.
Stock making is the oldest and most widely taught tradition in cooking, so we honor and embody this tradition in everything that we do, taking absolutely zero shortcuts."
Bare Bones' answers to all your questions
What on earth is this package made out of?
Glad you asked, because Bare Bones' packaging is REALLY cool. I'll let them describe it: "Our current pouches are made up of multiple layers of laminate film, including a new generation polyethylene called C8 Octane, polyester for stiffness, and nylon for strength. Our pouches are also over engineered with an incorporation of silicon dioxide powder (one of the most abundant materials on Earth, found in our bodies, and a component of glass) for the inside layer, creating an excellent oxygen barrier to maximize the freshness and shelf life."
