Tacos are over. Mexican spices are in! Chilis and heat and zest are pressed into service in this awesome meat bar made with grass-fed beef. Get your kicks with cayenne pepper, chili powder, and chili pepper flakes: spice to the third power. Don't worry, it will not set fire to your taste buds. The sweet potato and dates take care of the gently sweet notes that complement both the spices and the hearty beef in every bite. Ok, ok, if you want tacos, you can have them. But this bar might be the perfect in-between snack. ~
For the true, true stories behind this incredible foodstuff, read on.
Now is truly the era of the meat bar. Not stiff jerky or overly greasy snack sticks. Real, decadent, perfectly spiced meat bars that will have you swearing off those "energy bars" of years past, or even your artisanal jerky of late. And to think I actually used to LIKE things like Powerbars and Clif bars and their brethren.... yikes.
In this brave new meat bar era, you get to enjoy things like this, from a company called DNX. They have made the protein-heavy paleo-friendly bar of animal into a treat to be enjoyed every single day. They start with grass-fed and pastured meats, then add nuts, spices, and even fruit to the recipe to make each flavor a wondrous gourmet delight.
Mexican flavors are as cliched as they are delicious, and nowhere is the word "zesty" overused as much as it is when talking about south of the border cuisine. And yet. Combine earthy notes of pepper with sweet potatoes and rich naturally-raised meat and this is food gone good. Each bite of this bar is a bit chewy, a bit tender, and a bunch amazing. It's the perfect condiment for your paleo salad, or a bowl of steamed rice. Bringing extra flavor without scorching heat is chili peppers, cayenne, and chili powder. For the record, all of the flavors by DNX hit the right notes. Not too sweet, not too salty, not too savory or even too "meaty", if there is such a thing. But the Mexican Spice Beef Bar is the fiery cousin to the other flavors, perking up your post-workout meal or just your morning hangries.
Why real food based meat bars by DNX are so good for you
Sourcing. Sustainability. Love. Yes, all of these things are in each bar, each deliciously delightful bar. Plus, this bar is Whole30 Approved!
Here's what they say about what goes into their bars: "Most bars make you choose. You can get quick energy and a candy bar flavor – if you give up total nutrition and don’t worry about whether your food is organic. Other bars achieve high protein content using highly processed whey and soy isolates, and they just don’t taste good."
Here are some of the amazing ingredients in the Mexican Spice Beef Bar:
Grass-Fed Beef is lower in fat than grain fed animals: about the same fat content as skinless chicken. “Grass-Fed Beef” denotes that no grain finishing, antibiotics, hormones or animal by-products were ever used in the care and raising of the cattle.
The reason that grass-fed animals have more Omega-3s than grain-fed animals is that Omega-3s are formed in the green leaves (specifically the chloroplasts) of plants. Sixty percent of the fat content of grass is a type of Omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic or LNA. This beef also contains a rich source of another type of good fat called “conjugated linoleic acid” or CLA. When cattle are raised on fresh pasture alone, their meat can contain as much as five times more CLA than products from animals fed conventional diets.
Organic Sacha Inchi
A powerhouse of minerals, complete protein, and Omega 3’s, sacha inchi powder contains high-quality protein that has been shown to be low-irritant and one of the most highly-digestible proteins known, making it a good option for people who are sensitive to whey/dairy or soy proteins. Often referred to as a superfood, sacha inchi oil is 48% Omega 3 fatty acids, which makes it an excellent supplement for people who don’t eat fish. It is higher in Omega 3’s than fish oil. The powder also contains rich amounts of Vitamin A and calcium, which support healthy eyes, teeth, skin, and bones.

About DNX, in their own words
Firstly, what the heck is DNX? It's a bit of a playful acronym for "Daily Nutrition, eXcellent taste". I like the subtle reference to R(x) in the name - that food should be your medicine, especially if it has great ingredients and real nutrition.
Here's what they say about their beginnings, "DNX Foods founder, John Rooney, made the conscious decision to change his unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle and embark on a fitness and wellness journey. While adopting a regular exercise and clean-eating routine, he noticed a lack of portable, nutritious food options; there seemed to be only an endless array of processed, artificial, low-quality snack bars with unpronounceable ingredients and misleading labels. Sadly, the few legitimately healthy bars that he found tasted like dirt. It was then that Rooney assembled a team of fitness and culinary experts and became laser focused on creating an honest snack that would never compromise taste or nutrition. It’s a 100% clean, nutrient-rich bar made with wholesome and organic ingredients that doesn’t sacrifice taste."
Here are answers to some of your most important questions!
What makes DNX bars so much better than something like, say, a Powerbar?
Easy! It's real food. Now, it might be real food smooshed together and shaped into a bar that doesn't look unlike a regular energy bar, but it is still FOOD. No processed grains, no refined sugars, no stabilizers or wacky added vitamins.
