Superfood Organic Sunflower Butter Go by YumButter - 7 oz

Don't kid yourself. Despite the back-of-the-package instructions to smear this on fruit or protein bars, it will just end up going on a spoon or, better yet, directly into the mouth. This superfood nut butter is in a squeeze pack, for cryin' out loud—why not just open the top, point the nozzle at your lips, and give that thing a squeeze? When the result is a rich and gently-sweet mouthful of organic sunflower butter enhanced with love, why not indeed!?

For the true, true stories behind this incredible foodstuff, read on.

Isn't every new nut butter that graces the shelves just one more nut butter? Ho hum, blah blah blah, what butter? For many of the jars out there, that's true. Bland combinations meant to be uber-nutritious or decadent factory-enhanced flavors intended to serve as a dessert yet masquerading as something nut based and therefore healthy. That's right, "hazelnut spread" a.k.a. "frosting", I'm looking at you.

Enter Yumbutter into the landscape. This company was founded by two dudes darn near addicted to nut butters, as athletes, as college students, as busy guys. Over time, homemade nut butters were concocted and you are now holding one of the fruits of that inspiration: the Sunflower GO pack. This flavor is a lightly-sweetened sunflower seed butter with a big punch of goji, hemp, chia, and lucuma superfoods. The taste is decadent, but only a bit. Honestly, you can tell while eating it, whether on a spoon or on a banana, that there's some healthy stuff going on in there. That this is not just sunflower seed butter, the likes of which are plentiful on store shelves and often heavily-sweetened.

Even the pouch itself is fun - throw it in your bag, desk drawer, or fridge. Don't worry about having a spoon or knife along when you want a little bit. Just give the package a good kneading to blend in the oils with the nutty butter part (just like natural nut butters, you should give it a "stir" to incorporate everything all together if it has been motionless for awhile). Then, unscrew the lid and squeeze out what seems right. Give it a taste, and notice the background sunflower seed flavor, blending with the rest of the organic ingredients to make a uniquely delicious mouthful. I like the gentle sweetness, and often will balance that by adding a shake of salt to the butter before I take a bite. It's very low in sodium: perfect for those watching their intake, perfect for those who like to add salt to everything.

Here are some of the amazing superfoods in Yumbutter's Sunflower Butter

Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower seeds are one of those superfoods that was super-popular in the 1970s, and used in countless bad recipes involving tofu, beansprouts, and shredded carrots. It reached its culinary nadir in the “vegan nut loaf” — overdense and underseasoned. There’s a reason why sunflower seeds were so popular — they’ve got an amazing nutritional profile. And if well-seasoned, they actually taste good. Sunflower seeds are high in protein, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Here are some of the superpowers of sunflower seeds. They may help to:

  1. Prevent many types of infectious diseases, as well as cancer.
  2. Lower LDL, "bad cholesterol" and increase HDL, "good-cholesterol"
  3. Reduce blood sugar levels
  4. Maintain the integrity of the cell membrane of mucus membranes and skin.
  5. Strengthen the immune response
  6. Create significant anti-inflammatory effects that result in the reduction of symptoms in asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis
  7. Enhance GABA activity inside the brain, which in turn helps reduce anxiety and neurosis
  8. Reduce the severity of asthma, lower high blood pressure, and prevent migraine headaches, as well as reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Chia Seed

Chia, or Salvia Hispanica L. the ancient super food of the Aztecs who valued it more highly than gold. The Tarahumara in Copper Canyon, Mexico, the greatest long distance runners on the planet, have had a long history of using this slow burning rocket fuel for both athletes and warriors alike. Chia typically contains 20% protein, 34% oil, and 25% dietary fibre. It is also the highest Omega-3 nutrient source found in nature with perfectly balanced Omega 3, 6, 9 profiles and ratios. This recently revived oil seed crop is considered a perfect food because it‘s one of the few vegetarian sources of complete protein. Chia seeds are loaded with antioxidants, calcium, and other vitamins and minerals. They provide stamina, endurance and reduce cravings, because chia seeds absorb so much water and have high soluble fibre levels that help release natural, unrefined carbohydrate energy slowly into the bloodstream.

Hemp Seed

Hemp Seed is low in carbohydrates, contains more protein than milk, meat or eggs and is suitable for those unable to digest gluten, sugar, milk, nuts and meat. Eating hemp seeds will not get you high (they contain no THC), but they’ll do wonders for your health. They contain all 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential amino acids (EAAs) our bodies cannot produce. They’re nature’s highest botanical source of essential fatty acid, with more essential fatty acid than flax or any other nut or seed oil. They’ve got a perfect 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 Linoleic Acid and Omega-3 Linolenic Acid – for cardiovascular health and general strengthening of the immune system. Hemp also contains phytonutrients, which may boost immunity, purify the skin, and strengthen connective tissue. And finally, hemp is an amazing source of essential minerals, including magnesium, manganese, and iron. It’s an especially great source of magnesium, which is a key nutrient for health — effecting almost every system in the body — but is sorely lacking in the Standard American Diet.

Lucuma Powder

Ever looked at the ingredients list on your Yumbutter and thought, "What the heck is Lucuma Powder?" Wonder no longer! Lucuma powder is made by drying and milling the subtropical lucuma fruit. It's a low-glycemic sweetener and contains lots of nutrients like B3, beta carotene, iron, zinc, calcium, and protein. On its own, lucuma has a sweet, maple-like taste and is even a common ice cream flavor in many South American countries!

How to eat this nut butter

One or two or three paragraphs on how to consume, how to prepare, how to store, etc.

About Yumbutter, in their own words

WE RUN ON NUT BUTTERS. There, we’ve said it. Spoonfuls per day.

In fact, nut butters have fueled our bodies for as long as we can remember. As one of those perfect foods packed with protein, healthy fats, and a wide range of micronutrients, we’ve consumed hundreds...actually, thousands... of pounds, pumping out wholesome sustained energy for the everyday grind.

Over time, our love for fresh, healthy food led us to grind our own homemade batches. In an instant we were hooked. When we met in 2011, we bonded over the delicacies each of us were crafting individually and our desire to improve the lives of others. So, we set forth to expand the fledgling Yumbutter brand into a company that could have monumental impact.

Every time you buy one jar or pouch of Yumbutter, you help feed a child with malnutrition. We partner closely with a non-profit in Guatemala to provide holistic care to malnourished children and their mothers. Starting with pre-natal supplementation and education on nutrition and sanitation through when the child reaches age two with nutrition supplementation, parasite de-worming medicine, and more education for the mother regarding breastfeeding and complementary feeding.

We partner with Primeros Pasos in Xela Guatemala, which was founded in 2003 by a medical student who saw the huge need for medical care for impoverished and malnourished rural Guatemalans.

Even more about Yumbutter

Fueled by the goodness of nut butters, we’ve traveled the world, we’ve started our own businesses, hiked, biked, and run, and never met a rope swing we didn’t like. Heck, peanut butter even fueled Adrian’s trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp and back.

We’ve hauled jars of nut butters around the world and around town. Winter camping in northern Wisconsin? You betcha. Hiking in Colorado. Yep. Biking country roads and city streets. All the time. It finally occurred to us that we could make this lighter & more portable, and more nutritious for our everyday adventures.

YumbutterGO is born and we decide to launch it to the world using Kickstarter. Backers bought over 1000 pouches in 30 days and we knew we were on to something big. We’ve worked day and night to bring you the ONLY:

Organic GO-Anywhere™ nut butter
Superfood integrated nut butter
Socially-driven nut butter
